Generation I

William Uriah Cottle was born in Radstock, Somerset, England. He died 1779 in Greenbrier, VA.

He was "transporetd" to Colonies in 1752 for a 7 year sentence as per judgement of Somerset County court, England; was in Staunton, VA prior to coming to Greenbrier area.

The name Cottle is old Cornish and comes from the words "cos-hayl" meaning "wood by an estuary."

He married Elizabeth.

Their children were:

Nancy Cottle (married Robert Pyne)

Elizabeth Cottle (born before 1765 in Greenbrier or Rockingham Co, VA); married John McQuire
